No power: a curse, or not?

So I guess I have to start off complaining a bit. I still don't have power this morning. In fact I am doing this on a laptop in biology because I am worried that I still won't have power tonight, and my phone is sitting on my desk next to me charging. I had a coldish bagel for breakfast and did my makeup by flashlight. But, despite all my complaints, I have to say that I don't entirely regret it. Sure it's inconvenient that it happens to coincide with the day that I have all four of my finals to take (today), but there was something nice about going to sleep with my window (well actually my sister's window because my room is in the basement and I had to sleep in her room as we were afraid the basement would flood since we live at the bottom of a hill and our sump pump wasn't working) where was I? Oh, sleeping with window open and hearing the rain fall and the cars pass by. (Who would be out last night?? Apparently a lot of people...) Taking a candle with me downstairs so as not to use up all the flashlight batteries. Or the fact that the stuff that usually keeps us so occupied, like our tvs and computers and all of that, didn't work, forcing us to do stuff like read the newspaper and talk to each other. Add to that the fact that we (my family) were all stuck together in the very dark basement for a couple hours while there was an actual tornado warning, and I started to feel more like I was living in pre-super technology time. And it didn't suck so bad.

On to politics since this is a government blog. So Clinton is leaving. Only not. She is "suspending" her candidacy, so that she is still technically a candidate, and she gets to keep her state delegates. Can you say weak?? She gets to dodge criticism for staying in the race (when the race is done...) without actually technically leaving. And now she's saying she'll take the vice presidency if she's offered. On the surface an Obama-Clinton ticket seems good, that it'll unite all the people (there are a lot) who are die-hard Clinton fans, and Obama will bring his supporters, but I don't know that that will happen. With all the drama that has happened between them, I'm not sure that they can be convincing in their union. Ok class time is almost over, and I'm not done but I have to put away the laptop. Well, congrats to Obama!

Emily it seems like we were in the same boat power-wise. Mine was out for 30 something hours and I agree it was nice not having the house filled with noise from the tv or laundry or computer. It forced me to go to bed early too and I felt like I went back a hundred years when your day ended with the sun. It was nice but I think it would get old after a few days when the fridge starts to smell and you miss the hot water.

Anyway, on the vice president topic, I'm not sold on the Clinton-Obama ticket. It seems very fake because they have been fighting viciously and now that it's finally over I can't imagine Obama being like, sorry for that, be my vp? It just seems very forced. I would prefer Sebelius, Richardson or Edwards over Clinton but wouldn't be totally shocked if she got it. 18,000,000 is a pretty nice number for Obama to have at any rate. I would vote for him no matter who his vp is but I think haing Clinton would open up too many weaknesses for McCain to expose.

It's funny that there is so much less speculation for the republican nominee than the democrat's but I think that's because the democrats really need to round out the ticket.

Fortunately my family only lost power for three hours and I was relieved to have been at work for most of that time but I agree it is bewildering when all you have to entertain yourself is other people. Its discomforting to flip a light switch and not have a room light up.
On the results of Clinton leaving the race I guess we answered the question of wether or not America is ready for a female president. Guess not.
